Gregorius Nekschot, the persecuted Dutch cartoonist who is to stand trial in Holland for having offended Islam, was invited to speak at an event organized by the Danish Free Press Society [Trykkefrihedsselskabet] in Copenhagen. Here a short interview by Danish public service TV; Danmarks Radio.

In the interview a burka clad Gregorius Nekschot describes how he was arrested on May 13 2008 by a swat team of 10 armed police officers.

The Danish Minister of 'social affairs and gender equality', Karen Jespersen was also present at the meeting; she can be seen on this photograph (grey hair glasses front right, immediately behind her journalist and writer Helle Merete Brix).

Short intro in Danish.

Translation of Danish speak:

Anchor: In Holland the limits of free speech are again being discussed. Several major trials are on their way, amongst others the case of the cartoonist here, whom our reporter met at a secret place in Copenhagen.

Female voice: When does one cross the line using ones freedom of speech? The cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot first wants to answer when he has put on his disguise...

The Dutch cartoonist uses a nick name; Nekschot; in English 'shot to the back of the neck', but the Dutch authorities do not only protect him; they also prosecute him...

Nekschot now risks 2 years in jail because of his drawings, because Holland has recently raised the penalty for inciting to hatred.

Also the Dutch politician Geert Wilders faces a trial, after he compared the Koran to Hitler's book 'Mein Kampf'. Since he has been indicted officially, his party has surged in the polls, and would today get every sixth vote in Holland, and triple his party's mandates in the Dutch parliament.

Anchor: And Gregorius Nekschot, at he calls himself, is speaking right now at a meeting arranged by the Danish Free Speech Society. Anchor: And Gregorius Nekschot, at he calls himself, is speaking right now at a meeting arranged by the Danish Free Speech Society.

Shocked by attack on free speech

Tightening of blasphemy laws in Holland has had dramatic consequences for a cartoonist in that country. Also in Holland there has been a heated debate about blasphemy and free speech for quite a while. Now the authorities have tightened the enforcement of hate crime and blasphemy laws. »Anti-Semitism is nothing but the antagonistic attitude produced in the non-Jew by the Jewish group. The Jewish group has thrived on oppression and on the antagonism it has forever met in the world. The root cause is their use of enemies they create in order to keep solidarity« - Albert Einstein, in Colliers Magazine, November 26, 1938
